ALOR SETAR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Control and Border Protection Agency (MCBA) seized 25,920 kilogrammes (kg) of frozen chicken worth RM285,120 at the Bukit Kayu Hitam Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Safety (ICQS) Complex yesterday.
Bukit Kayu Hitam MCBA biosecurity division chief Rohaimishah Che Me said the seizure was conducted at 8.30 pm after irregularities were found with the halal documentation during inspections.
“Physical checks found the reference number on the halal certificate did not match information on the packaging and boxes of the products,” she said in a statement today, adding that the consignment of chicken was believed to involve inaccurate or confusing information to officials.
The entire consignment has been seized and confiscated for further action, she said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 13 of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011.
She reiterated that the agency would be committed to ensuring food security, compliance of the law and the preservation of consumer rights, especially at the country’s entry points.
