MUSCAT (Oman), Feb 6 (Bernama-IRNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Muscat, the capital of Oman, to participate in nuclear talks with an American delegation.

According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Araghchi arrived at Muscat Airport early on Friday morning and was welcomed by Omani officials.

Araghchi is accompanied by Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Deputy for Political Affairs; Esmaeil Baghaei, Foreign Ministry spokesperson; Hamid Ghanbari, Deputy for Economic Affairs; and several other Iranian diplomats.

As announced by Araghchi, a new round of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States (US) will take place later this morning in Muscat.

According to US officials, Steve Witkoff, the US President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and former assistant, will represent the United States in the talks with Iran.

Witkoff arrived in Muscat a few hours before the Iranian delegation.

This round of nuclear talks is taking place amid the US military build-up in the region, as well as threats and claims made against Iran that threaten regional security.

Iran is entering the negotiations with the US bearing in mind the bitter experience of five previous rounds of talks with Washington, which were ultimately halted by military attacks by Israel and the United States on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

As a result, trust remains Iran’s most significant challenge in this round of negotiations.

The negotiations were the subject of intense speculation over the past week and at times appeared close to cancellation.
