MELAKA, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- A total of 101 activities and programmes involving people of all races and age groups will be held throughout the eight-day Demi Paya Rumput Carnival, which begins today, said Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Rais Yasin.
He said the carnival is a token of appreciation for the continued support, unity and community spirit shown by residents of the Paya Rumput constituency, which has about 91,000 people in more than 40 housing estates.
“Among the activities lined up are traditional games and community-based programmes, coordinated by relevant agencies and the Village Development and Security Committees in Paya Rumput,” he told reporters after the carnival’s opening ceremony at Taman Rambai Jaya here today.
The event was officially opened alongside the launch of the state-level Mega Gotong-Royong to Combat Aedes by State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communication exco Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan, representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
Rais added that other highlights include the launch of the Anak Paya Rumput Education Fund and the Hitam Manis Charity Concert featuring Datuk Hattan, Black Hanifah and Hazama, with Ab Rauf scheduled to officiate the main events at Hang Jebat Stadium on Feb 14.
