PORT KLANG, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The recruitment of Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) veterans to join the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) will prioritise those who opted for early retirement and are still fit and energetic.
AKPS director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the intake of retirees who remained productive and possessed specific expertise was also among the steps to strengthen the agency’s operational capabilities on the ground.
“I met Chief of Defence Force Gen Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman this morning, and he expressed unwavering commitment to assisting AKPS, Alhamdulillah.
“I would like to clarify here that the recruitment involves armed forces personnel who retired under the short service scheme, who are still energetic and young enough to carry out duties on the ground,” he said when met at West Port here during the working visit of Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar to the port today.
Commenting further, Mohd Shuhaily said placements would be made based on service background and specific expertise, including the possibility of involving former Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) personnel for maritime-related operations, vessel assets and enforcement in territorial waters.
However, he said the matter still required further discussion, including with MAF veterans.
On Feb 3, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was reported as saying that about 200 MAF veterans were expected to join AKPS beginning in the first quarter of this year.
