KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- A total of 8,000 students from B40 families across 200 schools nationwide will receive nutritious breakfast sets through the Breakfast for School Students Project.

In a statement today, MILO said the initiative, launched in 2021 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE), aims to ensure primary school students begin their day with adequate nutrition to help them stay focused, learn effectively and grow up healthy.

“This initiative will provide 40,000 balanced breakfast sets, selected from the Ministry of Education’s Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) menu and paired with MILO, to support students’ learning and active participation in the classroom.

“The programme also includes MILO Aerobics sessions and nutrition education talks conducted by certified nutritionists, integrating nutrition, physical activity and education,” read the statement.

According to MILO, the comprehensive approach encourages children to adopt active lifestyles from a young age, enhances the overall learning experience, expands access to nutritious breakfasts for students in need who are not listed under the RMT scheme, and complements existing government programmes.

Education Deputy Director-General (School Operations Sector) Zainal Abas said the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that no child begins the school day hungry, while fostering a healthier and more focused learning environment, particularly for students from underprivileged families.

“This effort will also help ease the financial burden on families during the back-to-school period and support canteen operators, who play an important role in providing nutritious meals.

“We greatly appreciate the collaboration with MILO in strengthening our shared responsibility for students’ well-being,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nestle (Malaysia) Berhad Executive Officer (MILO Business) Ng Su Yen said a nutritious breakfast is the foundation that drives children's growth, learning and overall well-being.

"As the new school year begins, the initiative is expected to benefit thousands of students from families facing challenges in meeting their nutritional needs, enabling them to start the school day with energy,” she said.

The programme, she said, underscores MILO’s continued commitment to promoting lifelong healthy habits within the community.
