KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Television Producers Association (PTVM) has called for the transformation of Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), initiated by its director-general of Broadcasting Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman, to be further strengthened, not only in terms of management but also in policy direction and strategic collaboration with the industry.

PTVM president Datuk Jurey Latiff Rosli said Suhaimi’s leadership has successfully revitalised the role of the public broadcaster, bringing it closer to both the industry and the people, while introducing improvements in governance and fostering greater openness in engaging industry players.

He added that a more progressive and relevant content approach aligned with current demands has also restored confidence in RTM’s ability to serve as a strategic partner to local producers.

“Suhaimi’s leadership has renewed confidence that RTM can be a strategic partner to local producers in developing high-quality, high-impact content.

“PTVM has taken note of the announcement of Datuk Suhaimi Sulaiman’s resignation as director-general of Broadcasting, effective Feb 23, 2026, and we, representing members of the local television production industry, record our highest appreciation and gratitude for his contributions and commitment throughout his tenure at RTM,” Jurey said in a statement today.

He said RTM must continue to play its role as a public broadcaster in effectively and fairly communicating the Malaysia MADANI government’s policies through nation-building content that strengthens unity and reflects the realities and aspirations of the people.

“PTVM remains committed to working closely with RTM and the government to ensure that the national television industry ecosystem continues to grow in a professional, sustainable and competitive manner,” he said.

Yesterday, Suhaimi confirmed to Bernama that he would be leaving RTM at the end of this month, after three years at the helm since January 2023.

He said his departure was a personal decision made after careful consideration of his future direction as he prepares to embark on a new chapter in life.
