IPOH, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Nearly 3,000 students of various ethnic backgrounds from 16 schools in the Tambun parliamentary constituency received RM1 million under the Sumbangan Kasih MADANI initiative in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year and Ramadan celebrations next week.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the RM300 cash aid per student is intended to ease the financial strain on families as they prepare for the festive season and Ramadan.
“Through the concern and leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, we have successfully channelled Sumbangan Kasih MADANI to 3,000 students.
“This is the largest distribution of Sumbangan Kasih MADANI to date. It is also the third time the programme has been implemented.
“The first benefited 2,000 students in Tambun, and the second last year reached 2,500 students,” he said at the Tambun Parliamentary Constituency Sumbangan Kasih MADANI ceremony held in conjunction with Chinese New Year and Ramadan, officiated by the Prime Minister at Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan (SMJK) Yuk Choy today.
Also present at the ceremony were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
Nga said his ministry also greatly appreciates Yayasan Berjaya Cares, the charitable arm of Berjaya Corporation Berhad, for strengthening public-private synergy through its RM1 million contribution towards the initiative.
Among the participating schools were Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Raja Permaisuri Bainun, SMK Dato' Haji Mohd Taib, SMK Tasek Damai, SMK Tanjong Rambutan, SMK Jelapang Jaya, SMK Jati, SMK Tambun, SMK Bandar Baru Putra, SMK Ulu Kinta and SMJK Poi Lam.
