BAGAN DATUK, Feb 27 (Bernama) -- A total of 901 Indian students and 14 Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) in Bagan Datuk received educational assistance totaling RM180,000 today.

The allocation was provided by the office of the Bagan Datuk member of parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Ahmad Zahid said that education has been his priority since he assumed the role of UMNO Youth Chief in the constituency in 1982.

“…in terms of ethnicity, religion and language, I have focused on learning and education to improve the quality of life for the children of Bagan Datuk,” he said during the event at Dewan Serbaguna Datuk Abdullah Ahmad, Hutan Melintang.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister’s special officer, Arvend Applasamy, said the allocation comprised RM100 each for 200 early education students and 691 students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT), laptops for 10 university students, as well as RM2,000 each for 14 Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG).

“This is the fourth year of this programme. This year, it has been expanded to reach more students and pupils, to ease the financial burden of education on parents,” he said.
