KUALA NERUS, March 14 (Bernama) -- Two divers are feared missing while diving at Pasir Akar Marine Park off Pulau Redang near here this afternoon.
Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the missing divers are a 31-year-old man from Kajang, Selangor, and a 42-year-old Chinese national.
He said police received a report about the incident at about 12.45 pm.
“Following the report, a boat from the Terengganu Fisheries Department, with seven rescue divers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Marine Park, was deployed to begin the search operation at 2 pm.
“The operation was also assisted by seven volunteers from a resort using two of their boats. It is understood that one of the divers is a dive master while the other is a student diver,” he said when contacted tonight.
Azli said the search operation also covered surrounding areas, including Pulau Bidong, Pulau Geluk and Pulau Tengkorak.
However, he said the operation had to be suspended at 6 pm due to rough sea conditions, and will resume tomorrow morning.
“As of the suspension of the operation this evening, the two divers have yet to be found. Any further developments will be announced in due course,” he said.
