SEREMBAN, March 17 (Bernama) --The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) is targeting RM40 million in total sales from its seven-day nationwide Semarak Syawal Farmers’ Market programme.

FAMA chairman Aminuddin Zulkipli said the March 14-20 programme spans 722 locations nationwide, including farmers’ markets, permanent sites and Medan Niaga Satok in Sarawak, as well as Rural Transformation Centres and Agro Bazar Kedai Rakyat and Agro Bazar Rakyat.

He said the programme allows the public to buy essentials at affordable prices ahead of the festive season, while offering access to a wide range of fresh agricultural produce.

“Alhamdulillah, response so far has been very encouraging, with supply steady and helping to keep prices under control ahead of Aidilfitri. The programme is also providing farmers and agro-entrepreneurs with a platform to boost sales and expand their market reach.

“So far, traders have complied with the set prices, with some offering goods even below market rates. The public is also advised not to engage in panic buying,” he said.

He spoke to reporters at the programme at Ampangan Farmers’ Market today, attended by Ampangan assemblywoman Tengku Zamrah Tengku Sulaiman.

Aminuddin said the Semarak Syawal Farmers’ Market highlights the Agro MADANI combo of chicken, eggs and vegetables for RM10, down from RM17.50, as well as promotions on fresh produce, including meat at RM28 per kg instead of RM38 and spent hens for RM10 each.

Asked about potential price hikes following the West Asia conflict, he said domestic food supply and prices remain stable, with FAMA continuing to facilitate sufficient supply chains by diversifying sourcing to prevent future disruptions.

“If external disruptions occur, we will identify the cause and seek alternative sources to maintain price stability,” he added.
