KANGAR, March 19 (Bernama) -- The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) in Perlis collected 474.3 kilogrammes (kg) of surplus food and beverages through the MySaveFood @ Bazar Ramadan Arau programme from March 2 to 4.
Its state director Fadil Idris said the total comprised 159.3kg of food and 315kg of beverages, which were distributed to the Tun Siti Aishah Ghani Housing Centre in Wang Ulu, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and the Civil Defence Force (APM) for further distribution to those in need.
“This initiative also supports Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.3, which aims to reduce global food waste by 2030,” he told reporters after inspecting Ops Perantau and Ops Mega Raya Bulk Waste Collection at Taman Bukit Kayangan here today.
Fadil said Ops Perantau, held from March 7 to 21, involves monitoring residential premises, public hotspots and Aidilfitri bazaar sites.
He said the focus also includes managing firecracker waste, bulk waste disposal and drain cleaning.
“During the operation, SWCorp also engages with the community through advisory services and monitoring on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and complying with proper waste disposal practices,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ops Mega Raya Bulk Waste Collection is being carried out from March 16 to 21, from 8 am to 5 pm, to facilitate residents in disposing of bulky items such as old furniture, mattresses and used clothing in an orderly manner.
Fadil advised residents to place bulk waste in front of their homes near rubbish bins without obstructing public pathways and not to mix it with regular domestic waste.
“Throughout the operation, concessionaires will increase collection frequency and optimise manpower and logistics to ensure all bulk waste is managed efficiently,” he said.
Fadil added that the operation, conducted in collaboration with Environment Idaman Sdn Bhd, is expected to create a cleaner, more conducive environment ahead of Aidilfitri.
