PUTRAJAYA, April 3 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (RTD) has launched immediate energy-saving measures across all its offices nationwide, following the government’s directive to reduce energy consumption in government buildings.
Key initiatives include raising air-conditioning temperatures to lower electricity use and permitting staff to wear corporate or batik attire during working hours.
RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department has also cut lighting by up to 50 percent in office areas that do not serve the public directly.
“We fully support the government’s efforts to conserve energy and reduce public expenditure. We are proud to be the first department to take immediate action and implement this directive,” he told reporters after the RTD staff assembly here today.
He said the department continues to strengthen its digitalisation efforts by encouraging the public to carry out transactions online through the MyJPJ app and official portal for services that do not require in-person visits.
“This helps the public save travel costs and supports the nation’s energy-saving agenda while making government services faster and more accessible. Details on work-from-home (WFH) arrangements for JPJ staff will be announced soon.
“RTD remains committed to playing a proactive role in supporting government policies while ensuring the continued delivery of efficient, integrity-driven, and resilient services amid current challenges,” he added.
Yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof announced stricter energy management in government buildings, including setting air-conditioning temperatures to a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius, in response to the global energy crisis.
Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in a video message, announced that WFH policies for the public sector and government-linked companies will take effect from April 15 as a proactive measure to tackle the global energy crisis.
