KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- Batik Air has announced new direct services to Shanghai, China and Sydney, Australia, beginning June and July this year.
In a statement today, the airline said the expansion reflects the company’s continued commitment to supporting sustained travel demand and reinforcing connectivity as Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
“The introduction of the Kuala Lumpur–Shanghai service, commencing June 23, 2026, marks a significant milestone in Batik Air’s network expansion into China. It complements its existing services to Changsha, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Kunming, Xiamen, and Zhengzhou.
“The route will be operated by Boeing 737 aircraft. The all-in-one fare starts from RM399 for economy class and RM1,679 for business class, further reinforcing connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and one of the Asia-Pacific region’s key economic and tourism centres,” it said.
Batik Air said the company is strengthening its presence in Australia with a direct Kuala Lumpur–Sydney service, commencing July 1, 2026. It will be operated by Airbus A330 aircraft for enhanced capacity and comfort on long-haul travel.
Currently, the airline serves Australia through Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney via Denpasar, alongside 14 weekly direct Kuala Lumpur–Perth flights.
“The new non-stop Sydney service operates seven times weekly. The all-in-one fare starts from RM749 for economy class and RM4,069 for business class. It complements existing operations and further strengthens connectivity within one of the airline’s key international markets,” said Batik Air.
Meanwhile, Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline continues to align its network with sustained market demand. The Shanghai and Sydney additions strengthen two of its most important international corridors.
“China and Australia remain important markets. These services will help facilitate greater movement of travellers while reinforcing economic and people-to-people ties,” he added.
