KUCHING, April 3 (Bernama) -- The government has allocated RM30 million this year to upgrade border control posts in Sarawak to strengthen infrastructure and enhance the welfare of personnel on duty.
Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari said the allocation will focus on upgrading existing posts following the development of several new posts that had been implemented in 2024.
He said there are currently 12 control posts in Sarawak, including three joint Malaysia–Indonesia posts operated in collaboration with Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), to ensure border security is maintained.
“Priority is to ensure border security, including control over the movement of people and goods, while strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies such as the Home Ministry and the General Operations Force,” he told reporters after a Peduli Veteran MADANI programme at Kampung Ensebang Pelaie, about 108 kilometres from here, today.
He said the government is also planning to increase the number of control posts under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), although the total has yet to be finalised pending discussions with the National Security Council and the Sarawak government.
Meanwhile, Adly said the government has increased this year’s allocation to RM300 million to safeguard the welfare of military veterans, with a large portion channelled towards living assistance and healthcare services.
“Efforts are carried out through the Peduli Veteran MADANI Programme, which focuses on welfare, healthcare, housing, education for veterans’ children, as well as improving their socioeconomic status.
“A total of 16 veterans were visited in Simunjan and Sebuyau districts in Sarawak during this programme to ensure that assistance reaches the targeted groups,” he said.
