IPOH, April 3 (Bernama) -- The Agro MADANI Sales by the Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia (LKIM), held in conjunction with the Perak edition of MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2026, is offering a wide range of fresh fish at affordable prices, with supplies reaching up to 10 metric tonnes to help the public obtain seafood at reasonable prices.
Its chairman, Muhammad Faiz Fadzil, said the initiative is a collaboration with the Sungai Tinggi Area Fishermen’s Association, one of the main fish landing areas in Perak.
He said various fish species are available, including bawal emas (golden pomfret), kembung (Indian mackerel), selayang (Indian scad) and gerut-gerut (white snapper), as well as prawns, squid, cockles and crabs, brought directly from the source and sold at 20 to 40 per cent below market prices.
“This is to enable the public to enjoy fresh food supplies at lower prices. We will also be giving away one kilogramme (kg) of cockles to lucky buyers,” he said at a press conference at the LKIM Agro MADANI Sales booth at Perak PMR 2026 here today.
He added that about 3.5 metric tonnes of fish are prepared for sale each day over the three-day programme, which begins today and runs until Sunday.
Sales at the LKIM booth will take place from 9 am to 7 pm.
Meanwhile, he said the country’s fish supply is currently sufficient, and there is no need for price increases, following a high landing season and continued subsidies for fishermen.
