SAMARAHAN, April 4 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak government has allocated RM300 million to upgrade the water supply system in Samarahan to ensure a more stable supply and meet current and future needs.

Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang said the project will include replacing old pipes and restructuring the water distribution system.

She said a proposal to build high-capacity water tanks has also been put forward to support residential and industrial needs in the area.

“The matter has been brought to the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication for further action,” she said when met at the Kota Samarahan Aidilfitri gathering here today.

Rubiah said the upgrade works are expected to begin at the end of April and will take about 12 months to complete.

Once completed, she said the water supply system, including in Kampung Baru which previously faced disruptions and complaints, is expected to be more stable.

She added that the system will also be reorganised to improve efficiency, including introducing three main pipeline sources to reduce reliance on a single source.
