KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- The Department of National Unity and National Integration (JPNIN), via the National Integration Research and Training Institute (IKLNH), will establish an accreditation body for basic certification of mediators, to ensure that community mediation services are of high quality, standards, and recognised.
This initiative is part of three key approaches announced by National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang during the ministry’s monthly assembly today, aimed at enhancing and expanding community mediation services nationwide.
“This community mediation service was introduced to manage neighbourhood-level conflicts more harmoniously and effectively, preventing disputes from escalating without the need for legal litigation,” the ministry said in a statement.
The other two approaches include the launch of the Handbook of Community Mediation Cases, which compiles real-life mediation cases to serve as a reference for mediators in the field, under the theme ‘Community Mediators Catalysing National Harmony’.
In addition, 12 Community Mediation Centres will be established to serve as local platforms where residents can access mediation services efficiently and effectively to resolve community conflicts.
The ministry noted that these mediation services are provided on a pro bono basis, and the number of certified mediators has risen to 595, up from 571 previously.
“This effort reflects the MADANI Government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening national unity through an inclusive, proactive, and community harmony-focused approach,” read the statement.
