KUALA NERUS, (Malaysia), April 4 (Bernama) -- Iran has called for greater unity among Muslim nations amid the ongoing situation in Gaza, stressing the need for a stronger collective response, particularly in addressing actions by Israel, said its ambassador to Malaysia, Valiollah Mohammadi Nasrabadi.
He said the continued loss of civilian lives in Gaza and other affected areas underscores the urgency for coordinated action and a more unified response among Muslim countries.
"We must unite, Muslims around the world must unite against the enemy. And, of course, the most important enemy now is Israel. They have killed a lot of innocent people in Gaza and other places.
"God willing (Insya-Allah), I hope that, with the unity of the 'Ummah', we can give them a very strong response and might, that they cannot attack any Muslim country," he told reporters after the opening ceremony of the 5th International Ijtimak for Ummah Unity and the 2026 Malay World Assembly (Majlis Perasmian Ijtimak Antarabangsa Perpaduan Ummah Kali Ke-5 dan Himpunan Alam Melayu 2026) here on Saturday.
On bilateral ties, Valiollah expressed optimism that Iran – Malaysia relations will continue to deepen, driven by expanded strategic cooperation across key sectors and stronger coordination on international platforms.
He said both countries have significant untapped potential to broaden collaboration and enhance engagement at the global level, adding that Malaysia and Iran are well-positioned to leverage these prospects to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
"There are a lot of opportunities that we can use to expand our relations. And I am optimistic that in future, the relations and cooperation between both countries will be further expanded.
"We will see the growth of the relation between the people of Iran and the people of Malaysia," he said.
He noted that Iran was among the earliest countries to recognise Malaysia after its independence, establishing diplomatic representation and laying the foundation for enduring bilateral ties.
"Since then, we have sought to be close partners. We share many common values and experiences. As two Muslim countries, we can work together," he said.
He added that shared membership in platforms such as the Developing Eight (D-8) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) provides additional avenues to advance cooperation at the multilateral level.
