PEKAN, April 5 (Bernama) -- The Pahang government, through the Pahang Recreation Council, is planning to organise the Mara Lasak Pahang 3.0 programme in Hulu Tembeling, Jerantut, says State Communications and Multimedia, Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal.

He said the proposal was put forward by the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, after witnessing the overwhelming response to Mara Lasak Pahang 2.0 held at Felda Chini 1 today.

“I am confident that Mara Lasak 3.0 will be even more vibrant, as participation of 105 teams this time has nearly doubled compared with last year,” Fadzli said when met by reporters here today.

At the event, Tengku Hassanal also presented prizes to the winners of Mara Lasak 2.0, with the Kuantan District Police Headquarters team emerging as overall champions as well as winners of the uniformed bodies category after recording a time of two hours and eight minutes.

Apart from uniformed bodies, the team-based trail run, which covered a 15-kilometre route with participants carrying a five-kilogramme load, also featured three other categories, namely invitational or VIP, government agencies and statutory bodies, as well as youth, university students and community categories.

Meanwhile, Fadzli said there were plans to open Mara Lasak Pahang 3.0 to participants from outside the state, as well as to introduce new categories.

“There is also the possibility of international participation, but we will first open it to Malaysians from other states. We do not want to rush, as organising such an event requires careful and detailed planning,” he said.

He also noted that the participation of Pahang Syarie Chief Judge Datuk Abdul Walid Abu Hassan, aged 63, who completed the race in about three hours, served as a strong example for the younger generation.

“The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang greatly appreciates individuals holding high positions who are willing to compete alongside others at such an age.

“This proves there is no excuse for the youth not to take part or complete this challenge,” he said, adding that Mara Lasak Pahang aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle, build physical endurance and resilience, as well as strengthen the spirit of teamwork among the people of the state.
