Dr Ling’s Vision Laid Foundation For Malaysia’s Logistics Talent Development

KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 (Bernama) -- The late Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik was instrumental in developing human capital and a visionary in recognising the logistics industry as a key pillar of Malaysia’s economic growth.

The Federation of Malaysian Freight Forwarders (FMFF) said the former transport minister was described as a distinguished leader, a visionary public servant and a steadfast supporter of Malaysia’s logistics and transport community.

"His foresight extended beyond infrastructure and policy, emphasising the importance of skilled and professional talent as the true driver of industry progress.

"Dr Ling’s leadership had inspired the federation to establish the Malaysian Institute of Freight Forwarders (MIFF) to build a sustainable and structured education and training programme for the logistics sector," FMFF said in a statement today.

The association also revealed that at a time when the logistics industry was still evolving, Dr Ling recognised that a strong, efficient and professional logistics sector would be critical to the nation’s economic growth.

“His vision went beyond infrastructure and policy, as he understood that people would be the true drivers of progress,” it said.

FMFF said Dr Ling also played an instrumental role in facilitating a RM100,000 grant, which became the seed funding for its education and training programme.

It said the support was not merely financial, but a powerful vote of confidence in the future of the industry.

Since then, thousands of industry personnel have been trained through accredited programmes, strengthening capabilities and shaping a more resilient logistics ecosystem.

The federation expressed its deepest respect and gratitude in honouring Dr Ling’s life and legacy, noting that he would always be remembered with honour and appreciation.
