Indonesia Mulls Ministerial Pay Cuts

JAKARTA, April 7 (Bernama) -- Indonesia is weighing a potential cut to ministers’ salaries as part of broader fiscal tightening measures, with the proposal set to be discussed at a Cabinet-level meeting in the coming days.

According to ANTARA News Agency, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the matter remains at the discussion stage, with no decision made so far.

“There has been no decision at all,” he said on Tuesday.

He also noted that the proposal did not originate from his office, directing any queries to the party that initially raised it.

The issue gained attention following remarks by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, who earlier said he would not object to such a move, while noting that any decision would ultimately depend on President Prabowo Subianto.

Purbaya also suggested that any potential reduction could be around 25 per cent, although no official figure has been set.

His remarks were made in the context of efforts to improve budget efficiency, including possible spending cuts across ministries and agencies.
