KL City FC Gunning For Super League Runners Up Spot

08/04/2026 12:55 PM

ISKANDAR PUTERI, April 8 (Bernama)-- Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC head coach Risto Vidakovic remains optimistic that his side still have a chance to finish as runners-up in the Super League, with focus now shifting to their remaining four matches in a bid to collect maximum points.

He said Kuching City FC have a slight edge with a game in hand and a one-point lead, adding that his players were determined to fight until the end of the season.

“The chances are still there, although it is very complicated. We know it will be very difficult because Kuching has one game in hand and a point ahead of us.

“However, we will continue to try and fight. We will approach every match until the end of the season with full commitment and aim to get the maximum points possible," he told a press conference here last night after the team’s 4-1 defeat to defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) in the second leg of the Malaysia Cup semi final.

The next match against Kelantan The Real Warriors (TRW) FC was important, he said, adding that the players must deliver their best performance.

Kuching City FC are currently third in the league standings with 40 points, while KL City FC are close behind in fourth place with 39 points.

Meanwhile, JDT head coach Xisco Munoz said his team have maintained consistent performances despite a tight fixture schedule, with a league match against Terengganu FC on Saturday next.

Already crowned Super League champions after chalking an unassailable lead, the team is also looking ahead to the quarter-final of AFC Champions League Elite (ACLE), either against Al-Ahli Saudi FC or Al-Duhail SC on  April 17.

“We have a lot of games in a short time. We need to recover and prepare properly for each match. It is important to maintain our focus,” he said.
