KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) — The unforgettable music of The Lion King will roar to life on June 13 at the Dewan Plenary, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), as Disney’s The Lion King Live in Concert brings the film to the big screen alongside a 72-piece orchestra performing the iconic score in perfect synchronisation.

The world-class production will be performed by the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Malaysia, recognised and approved by Disney Concerts for its technical precision, musical excellence and ability to meet international performance standards.

NSO Malaysia Resident Conductor at Istana Budaya, Eric Lee, said preparations for the production have been extensive, with rehearsals set to begin in June once the official scores are received, alongside strict guidelines to ensure the performance adheres to Disney’s global standards.

“We need to achieve perfect synchronisation, which is why Disney will send a technical director to guide us. They will first provide the original scores from the United States for early preparation, and the technical director will arrive in June to rehearse with the orchestra,” he said at a press conference here today.

Lee said the concert promises a distinctive experience by combining film screening with a live orchestral performance, offering audiences a more immersive and impactful way to experience the music.

“Usually, when you watch a movie, the music stays in the background. But this time, audiences will see the musicians in action and hear the instruments live on stage. That’s what makes it special.

“With recorded music, you don’t get the same connection. In a live setting, you can feel the vibration and impact, which creates an instant connection, even without musical training,” he added.

Meanwhile, Managing Director of Milestone Production, Datuk Grace Lee, said it took nearly two years of discussions and negotiations with Disney to secure the rights to bring the concert to Malaysia.

She added that the concert is part of efforts to introduce more world-class productions to the country while supporting the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.

“We wanted to bring something different and world-class to Malaysia, especially to attract family tourists, not only from within the country but also from the region.

“This concert is particularly special as it marks the 30th anniversary of The Lion King, bringing together audiences across generations, from children to parents and even grandparents,” she said, adding that about 50 per cent of tickets have been sold since sales opened two weeks ago.

Tickets for Disney’s The Lion King Live in Concert are available online, priced between RM168 and RM638.
