Labuan Perkeso Delivers Justice To Family Who Did Not Know Their Rights

LABUAN, April 10 (Bernama) -- Labuan's Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) stepped in to channel eligible benefits to the late Cheow Teck Dee's family, bringing them justice after nearly five years of not knowing their rights. 

Cheow, who died on July 10, 2021, at age 40, left behind a widow, Stepeny Leonney Munih, 39, and four sons ranging from eight months to nine years at the time.

"Even more heartbreaking is that his youngest child never got to know his father's love," Stepeny told Bernama today.

Throughout that time, Stepeny raised her children in hardship, unaware that her family qualified for Perkeso’s Survivors' Pension Benefit, which could have helped ease their financial burden.

Stepeny said she only found out recently after watching a TikTok video shared by Perkeso Group chief executive officer, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed, explaining the rights of contributors and their dependents. 

The Labuan Perkeso team immediately visited the family's home today to explain the benefits in detail and assist with the claims process.

The visit was led by Labuan Perkeso office manager Sylvester Candy Anak Pai, along with several officers.

During the visit, Perkeso also presented a care package as a show of support to ensure the family is not left out of the social protection they deserve.

Sylvester said this story proves how powerful social media can be in spreading information and helping dependents claim benefits they are entitled to. 

"Perkeso remains committed to expanding our advocacy and awareness efforts so that no contributor or dependent is left behind, even years later," he said.
