KUALA TERENGGANU, April 11 (Bernama) -- TNB ThunderStars has managed to deny Terengganu Hockey Team’s (THT) desire of defending the Charity Shield with a 5-4 win at Kuala Terengganu City Council Hockey Stadium this evening.

South Korean Jang Jong Hyun was undoubtedly the man of the match, scoring a personal hattrick in rivetting match that saw the lead change hands twice as both teams did their utmost to win the first title of the 2026 season.

Home team THT managed to rake up an early commanding 2-0 lead when Faizal Saari scored two goals in quick succession, first in the third minute, then the second a minute after, but the visitors managed to close the gap in the 16th minute when Jong Hyun scored a penalty corner.

TNB ThunderStars then managed not only to equalise but take the lead through Muhammad Adam Ashraf in the 30th minute and then Mohamad Akimullah Anuar Esook in the 33rd minute.

Penalty corner expert Jong Hyun then got his second personal goal of the match in the 44th minute, but THT rallied to even things up at 4-4, first with Samkelo Mvimbi’s goal in the 48th minute then THT captain Mohd Fitri Saari’s equaliser in the 52nd minute.

But it turned out to be TNB ThunderStars’ day as Jong Hyun scored his third goal in the final minute of the match (60’) to secure victory and the Charity Shield.

Besides the Charity shield, TNB ThunderStars also won RM5,000 in prize money.
