Three Shophouses Destroyed In Kuala Besut Fire

JERTIH, April 12 (Bernama) -- Three shophouses at Jalan Pasar, Pekan Lama in Kuala Besut near here were destroyed in a fire this afternoon.

Besut Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Muhammad Tarmimi Che Musa said the fire is believed to have started in one of the double-storey semi-permanent premises before spreading to nearby buildings.

He said 11 personnel from the Besut and Jertih fire stations were rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 1.12 pm.

“Upon arrival, the fire was already raging, but firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading to a fourth premises.

“It is estimated that 70 per cent of the three premises were destroyed. The cause of the fire and the total losses are still under investigation, and no casualties were reported,” he said, adding that all three premises were being used as residences.
