TEHRAN, April 20 (Bernama-IRNA) -- President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasising the pivotal role of universities in solving the Iran’s problems said academic institutions must be at the forefront and put their scientific capacity at the service of society, Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
"I believe that there is no problem, for which, there is no solution and even for every problem, there is not just one solution, but hundreds of possible ways to solve it," Pezeshkian said as he was visiting the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology on Sunday.
Universities should be at the forefront of solving the country's problems, he said, while receiving a report on the current status of higher education, the performance of universities and the extent of damage and losses sustained during the imposed war.
Appreciating the efforts of the academic community in the scientific progress, the President emphasised the continuity of education, management of universities in critical situations, and maintaining the dynamism of scientific activities.
The President stated that the university as a place of various specialties, including economics, agriculture, industry, management, culture, and sociology, must be utilised by academics to play a role in solving problems through their active present in the field, not only on the campus.
“Today, our country is facing numerous challenges, and in a situation where enemies have also problems with our scientific know-how, and progress, it is the elites and academics who can come up with solutions,” Pezeshkian stressed.
Referring to the need for more active participation of youth in social and economic fields, the President called for utilising all capacities to turn the country into a competitive one in innovation, creativity, and problem-solving.
Elsewhere in his speech, the President referred to regional and international developments, especially the US-Israeli war on Iran, saying some powers are trying to exploit the resources of regional countries by involving them in disputes and conflicts.
Stressing that the Islamic Republic was not seeking to expand the war as it was not in the interest of any body, Pezeshkian urged the nations of the region to stand against aggressive US-Israeli approaches with unity and solidarity and strengthen the path of cooperation and cohesion.
