Police Deport Japanese Man On Wanted List Since 2018

KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 (Bernama) -- A Japanese man being held in Kedah on drug offences has been deported to his home country yesterday after being wanted by Japanese authorities in connection with a murder case in 2018.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said the man is also listed in the Interpol Red Notice and was found to have changed his identity and nationality to that of a Myanmar citizen.

“The man was initially detained by the Kedah district police headquarters' (IPK) Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) for offences under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

"The results of the scientific and forensic investigations confirmed that the subject was the same based on fingerprint comparison and facial recognition through images," he said in a statement here today.

According to him, the identity verification was also obtained through DNA profiling by the DNA Forensic Division of the Malaysia Databank (D13), CID, Bukit Aman, which matched the DNA profile from Japan.

Kumar also said that prior to the deportation process, the man had been charged in the Alor Setar Court on Aug 27, 2025, under sections related to the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Immigration Act 1959/63 and was sentenced to prison for eight to 12 months for the offences.

He added that the PDRM continues to forge close cooperation with Japanese authorities in efforts to combat cross-border crime and strengthen international security.

"This action proves that Malaysia will not be a refuge for any individual trying to escape the criminal justice process," according to the statement.
