KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has reaffirmed that the Unity Government remains in control of Negeri Sembilan under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said issues surrounding the state administration had been effectively resolved following a meeting between top leaders of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) yesterday.

“Any issues that arise moving forward will be referred to top leadership in accordance with agreements reached among the component parties of the Unity Government,” he said at a weekly press conference in Angkasapuri today.

Also present were Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching, ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah, Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin and deputy editor-in-chief of news service Mohd Shukri Ishak, as well as Radio Televisyen Malaysia director-general Ashwad Ismail.

Yesterday, the Unity Government Leadership Consultative Council agreed to maintain political cooperation in Negeri Sembilan to ensure administrative stability and public wellbeing.

The decision was reached at a meeting jointly chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also PH chairman, and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is BN chairman.

On April 27, a total of 14 BN-UMNO assemblymen announced they had withdrawn support and lost confidence in Aminuddin.

Meanwhile, Fahmi dismissed speculation over possible state elections in Melaka, Johor and Negeri Sembilan, saying no such discussions had taken place.

The remarks follow reports that DAP had instructed its machinery to prepare for the possibility of snap polls if the state legislative assemblies are dissolved.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the directive was decided at the party’s central executive committee meeting, which also discussed the political situation in Negeri Sembilan.
