KUALA SELANGOR, May 8 (Bernama) -- Hospital Al-Sultan Abdullah (HASA), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), has become Malaysia’s first university teaching hospital to implement the Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) system via the MyCasemix (MyCMX) platform, in a move to address rising treatment costs while strengthening transparency and efficiency in healthcare services.
The system’s implementation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today between HASA UiTM and the Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by Health director-general Datuk Dr Mahathar Abd Wahab and UiTM vice-chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Shahrin Sahib.
Shahrin said the use of the MyCMX system at HASA UiTM would facilitate more systematic management of clinical and financial data, thereby improving the monitoring of service quality, strategic planning and cost management.
“The implementation of this system is expected to promote more transparent treatment costs based on clinical requirements and the actual use of resources.
“This strategic collaboration also supports the implementation of the National DRG initiative and the National Health White Paper towards a more sustainable, equitable and resilient healthcare system,” he said at the signing ceremony of the MoU between HASA UiTM and MOH at the hospital in Puncak Alam today.
Shahrin said the implementation of the system was crucial in ensuring the sustainability of the national healthcare system amid increasing treatment costs and rising demand for healthcare services.
Through the MoU, he said UiTM would focus on developing training capacity, sharing clinical and financial data, as well as supporting the implementation of the DRG system through the MyCMX platform at the national level, thus positioning itself as a strategic partner to the government in strengthening the country’s healthcare system.
In his speech, Dr Mahathar said the MoU was among others aimed at introducing and testing the MyCMX system’s usability in non-MOH hospitals, while enhancing clinical data collection processes and strengthening data quality monitoring such as patient readmission rates.
He said that input from HASA was highly valuable in ensuring that MyCMX becomes more generic, practical and better equipped to support the development of the National DRG System.
