JAKARTA, May 8 (Bernama) -- No Malaysians have been reported involved or affected in the eruption of Mount Dukono in eastern Indonesia on Friday, according to the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta.
The embassy said it is closely monitoring developments related to the incident, which occurred at 7.41am local time, and as of 3pm, there had been no reports from Indonesian authorities regarding Malaysian citizens being affected.
“Malaysian citizens affected and located near the area may contact the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta at +6281380813036,” the embassy said in a statement posted on its Instagram page.
According to the German Press Agency (dpa), the incident claimed three people, including two from Singapore.
As at 4pm, Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) in a statement said that 14 hikers had been found safe.
BNPB’s Head of the Disaster Data, Information and Communication Centre, Abdul Muhari said those found safe included seven Singaporeans – two men and five women – as well as seven Indonesians comprising of five men and two women.
Mount Dukono, located in the northern part of Halmahera island in North Maluku province, is one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes and has experienced frequent eruptions in recent years.
