Foreign Woman Arrested After Abandoned Baby Found In Semporna

SEMPORNA, May 13 (Bernama) -- A two-month-old baby boy wrapped in a piece of cloth was found abandoned on a footpath in front of an unoccupied house in Kampung Panji, Semporna, yesterday.

Semporna police chief  Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the baby, weighing about three kilogrammes, was discovered by members of the public at about 7 am and then taken to a hospital for further examination.

The baby, reported in good health and remains under observation, has been handed over to the Social Welfare Department for further action, he said in a statement today.

Following the incident, police arrested a 28-year-old foreign woman to assist in investigations under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child.

“If convicted, the suspect may face up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both,” he said.
