DPM Zahid Congratulates National Takraw Squad On World Cup Triumph

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated the national sepak takraw regu squad for winning the 2026 Sepak Takraw World Cup last night.

In a Facebook post today, he said the victory over traditional rivals Thailand in the thrilling final at Stadium Titiwangsa here was also driven by the extraordinary support of more than 3,000 fans throughout the match.

“I know it was not an easy victory… Well done, boys!” he said.

Ahmad Zahid also expressed appreciation to everyone behind the scenes who contributed to the meaningful achievement.

Malaysia emerged champions of the team regu event after Thailand withdrew from the highly controversial final following a disputed umpiring decision.

The result also saw the national squad end Thailand’s dominance, which had lasted for the previous three editions of the prestigious tournament.
