GUA MUSANG, June 11 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) has handed over the Bukit Chupak Water Treatment Plant (WTP) here, developed to improve the clean and stable water supply for over 20,000 residents in the Gua Musang district.

PAAB chairman Datuk Seri Jaseni Maidinsa said the RM70.76 million project, fully funded by PAAB, is the first WTP developed by the company in Kelantan, through cooperation with the state government and Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB).

He said the plant was built to overcome the prolonged clean water shortage faced by the local population and to increase the water supply reserve margin from zero to five per cent.

"This project not only ensures a more stable and quality water supply but also helps meet consumer demand during dry seasons and peak demand during festive periods," he said at the official opening of the Bukit Chupak WTP here today.

The plant was officiated by Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

Jaseni said the plant has a capacity of 10 million litres per day (MLD). It supplies two MLD of treated water to Ladang Sungai Terah, Kampung Kerinting and Kampung Awek. The remaining eight MLD is distributed to other areas, including Bandar Utama, Bandar Lama, Taman Wangsa Mewangi, Kesedar Inn, Kampung Batu 1 and Kampung Batu 2.

"Following its completion on April 28, the project has resolved water supply issues that have dragged on for nearly two decades in several critical areas within Gua Musang.

"The Bukit Chupak WTP utilises modern technology, including a flexible low weir gate that can increase the river depth by up to 0.75 metres to ensure a sufficient raw water source, especially during the dry season. This makes it the first plant in Kelantan to deploy such technology," he said.

He added that the plant is also equipped with modern water treatment technology and a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, enabling more efficient operational monitoring and control and thereby ensuring consistent water quality for consumers.

Meanwhile, Jaseni said PAAB remains committed to strengthening water infrastructure development in Kelantan, including through the Chicha 2 WTP project, which is expected to be completed this October, and the RM162.26 million Tok Bali WTP scheduled for completion in January 2028.

He said that as of May 2026, PAAB’s total funding in Kelantan had reached RM1.63 billion, encompassing completed, ongoing, and planned projects to ensure the state's water supply upgrading agenda is realised for the people's well-being.
