GEORGE TOWN, June 19 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil is scheduled to undertake a two-day working visit to Penang beginning today to attend various programmes held in conjunction with the National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2026 grand finale.
He will kick off the visit by attending the Malaysia Media Retreat Programme 2.0 in Seberang Jaya at 3.50 pm, before attending the state government dinner with Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib at 8.15 pm today.
The event is being held in appreciation of the media's role in national development, while also serving as a platform to bring together media practitioners, editors-in-chief and top management of local and international media organisations.
Fahmi will then join the RIUH Pi HAWANA Carnival at PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena at 10.15 pm, which brings together players in the creative industry, entrepreneurs and the local community.
The three-day carnival, which began today, combines creative arts elements with dialogue sessions and offers a variety of activities, including cyanotype printmaking, albumen printing and stone-carving workshops.
The carnival, which offers free admission, will also feature more than 24 local creative product brands, 20 food and beverage vendors, and 16 stage performances by local artistes, including Sakura Band, Kaka Azraff, Budak Nakal Hujung Simpang and Chelsea Ng.
Tomorrow, Fahmi will continue his packed schedule by attending the Jiwa@Sembang Santai Special World Cup Edition programme at the Seberang Jaya Public Market Food Court at 8.30 am.
He will then attend the Media Dialogue with the Communications Minister in conjunction with HAWANA 2026 at 9.30 am in Butterworth.
The highlight tomorrow will undoubtedly be the HAWANA 2026 Grand Finale, themed "Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility", which will take place at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena at 3 pm.
The event, to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is expected to bring together about 1,000 media practitioners from within and outside the country to discuss the direction of contemporary journalism.
Organised by the Ministry of Communications, with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) serving as the implementing agency, HAWANA is the premier platform for recognising the contributions, dedication and professionalism of media practitioners in Malaysia.
