PUTRAJAYA, June 22 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Bangladesh share common positions on key global issues, including Palestine, Gaza, the Gulf region and Iran, and will continue engaging international partners to promote peace, said Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said both countries remained aligned on key international issues including support for the Palestinian cause, the plight of the people of Gaza and the atrocities inflicted on them by the Zionist Israeli regime, and efforts to ensure lasting peace in the Gulf region and Iran.

“We are together and we will continue to engage with all our partners to ensure there is peace,” he said in a joint press conference with visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman here on Monday.

Tarique arrived in Malaysia on Sunday for an official visit to further strengthen the close bilateral relations between the two countries and deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The visit also marked Tarique’s first official trip abroad since assuming office in February this year.

Anwar also thanked Rahman for visiting Malaysia, describing him as part of an enlarged family.

“You’ve been very kind and supportive, and I look forward to the strengthening of these family bonds and brotherly relations between us,” he said.
