Trump Criticises Italy Over Iran Amid Tensions With Meloni

WASHINGTON, June 22 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Amid tensions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, US President Donald Trump complained about Rome's inaction during the US-Iran conflict, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.

"After spending Trillions of Dollars on NATO, Italy, and its Prime Minister, wouldn’t even think of becoming involved with the Islamic Republic of Iran and their very serious Nuclear Threat. For decades, we defend them but, when tested, they are not there to defend us, and the rest of the World. Not good!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Trump told Italian television channel La7 on Friday that Meloni had "begged" him for a joint photograph at the G7 summit in France, and he did it out of pity.

Meloni called Trump's words "completely fabricated", insisting that "neither she nor Italy" ever begs.

According to reports, a number of high-level meetings between US and Italian delegations were cancelled due to the tensions.
