"Toy Story 5" Tops North American Box Office On Opening Weekend

LOS ANGELES, June 22 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Disney and Pixar's animated film "Toy Story 5" took the top spot at the North American box office on its opening weekend with an estimated three-day total of US$160 million, figures from measurement firm Comscore showed on Sunday, reported Xinhua.

The film, scoring the biggest domestic opening weekend of the year, is the fifth installment in Pixar's beloved Toy Story franchise and serves as the sequel to 2019's "Toy Story 4."

Internationally, "Toy Story 5" generated US$152 million, bringing its worldwide opening-weekend total to an impressive US$312 million.

The film holds an approval rating of 94 per cent based on 217 reviews to date on the review-aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.

It earned an "A" on an "A+" to "F" scale from audiences polled by market research firm CinemaScore.

Universal Pictures' science fiction film "Disclosure Day" came in second with US$17 million on its second weekend.

The film has grossed US$78.3 million in North America after 10 days in theatres.

Rounding out the top three, Focus Features' R-rated horror film "Obsession" earned US$14.2 million on its sixth weekend.
