IPOH, June 22 (Bernama) -- A total of 2,182 new students, including three pairs of twins and seven students with disabilities (PwD), have chosen Ungku Omar Polytechnic (PUO) to further their studies for Session I: 2026/2027.

In a statement today, PUO said this reflects public confidence in the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offered by the institution.

The registration took place on June 20 and 21 at the PUO campus before the start of the academic session, with students accompanied by parents and guardians from across the country.

PUO director Dr Salmi Che Meh said the new intake demonstrates the public’s trust in the institution’s role in producing high-quality, skilled TVET graduates who meet current industry needs.

“Take this opportunity to gain knowledge, build character and develop your potential to become quality graduates who are competitive and ready to face the challenges of the working world,” she said in the statement.

PUO said for the current intake, students will pursue studies in 18 programmes, including Diploma in Accounting (DAC), Diploma in Islamic Finance (DIF), Diploma in Finance (DFI) and Diploma in Business Studies (DPM).

According to PUO, the three pairs of twins enrolled in this session are Nur Fatin Shazana Mohd Fadzil and Muhammad Aqil Taqiuddin Mohd Fadzil from Manong; R. Varshaan and R. Varmhan from Taiping; and B. Sharacaniswarran and B. Shanmugiswaran from Rawang, Selangor. Seven students with disabilities are also part of this year’s Student Transformation Week (MTS) at PUO.

“Their diverse backgrounds further add vibrancy and uniqueness to this intake. The breadth of programmes offered underscores PUO’s commitment to providing high-quality TVET education that meets current and future industry needs, in line with the nation’s human capital development agenda,” it said.

In addition to emphasis on academic excellence, PUO also provides various platforms for character development, leadership, volunteerism, innovation, entrepreneurship and co-curricular activities to produce holistic graduates with both technical and soft skills.
