24/06/2026 09:07 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, June 24 (Bernama) -- Former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba is confident that his extensive experience as a two-term elected representative in the Pasir Raja constituency will help him gain the support of voters in the 16th Johor State Election.

Dr Adham, who was announced today as the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Pasir Raja state seat, said his close relationship with local residents will also be one of his strengths as he seeks to win the hearts of voters.

“I am offering my experience and also the strong relationships that I have maintained over the years. I am confident that, as a former representative of the Pasir Raja state seat, and as the Tenggara UMNO division chief, I know a lot of voters,” he said when met after the announcement of Johor BN candidates here.

Commenting on the challenges expected in the state polls, Dr Adham said the success of a party depends largely on the ability of its campaign machinery to reach as many voters as possible.

“In my opinion, whoever campaigns actively and can meet the largest number of voters will gain the greatest advantage from the campaign,” he said.

Regarding the development agenda that he wants to pursue if given the mandate, he said the focus will be on efforts to strengthen the higher education and skills training sectors in the constituency.

Dr Adham served as the Pasir Raja assemblyman for two terms from 2008 to 2018 before winning the Tenggara parliamentary seat in the 14th and 15th General Elections, as well as having previously held the positions of Minister of Health and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation.
