MALANG (Indonesia), July 4 (Bernama) -- The national athletics camp continued to excel when they bagged four gold medals on Day Nine of the ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2024 here today.

Sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi led the gold medal charge with a blistering run in the men's 200-metre (m) event, clocking 21.15 seconds (s) to leave Indonesia's Muhamad Ramdan Fitadi (21.43s) and Thailand's Ruamchok Semathong (21.80s) settling for silver and bronze at the Surabaya State University Athletics Field.

Hammer thrower Sadat Marzuki Ajisan then followed suit to nab gold number two with a distance of 59.18m as Indonesia's Putera Rafika (47.48m) and Filipino John Laur Ballelos (45.75m) were left trailing in his wake to take home silver and bronze.

Malaysia's third gold came courtesy of men's 800m runner Wan Muhamad Fazri Wan Zahr, who clocked 1:51.28s to finish ahead of Filipino David Paul Matibag (1:52.25s) and Timor Leste's Manuel Belo Amaral (1:53.51s).

The fourth, and final, gold of the day was delivered by men's high jumper Muhammad Aiman Syazwan Abdullah, who cleared 2.10m. His compatriot Farrel Felix Jurus (2.05m) took silver while Indonesia's Rafael (2.05m) settled for bronze.

With today's achievement, the national athletics squad have thus met their 10-gold target, having collected four more golds yesterday and two on Tuesday.
