KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 (Bernama) -- E-commerce entrepreneurial development programmes conducted by several ministries have had positive impact on participants and managed to change their lives significantly.

Beauty entrepreneur Nilawati Degom, 40, said that joining the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) run programme under the Digital Ministry has helped her to expand her business from her home to her own beauty centre compared to her inability to generate adequate sales before the programme as she lacked proper business management skills.

"When I joined the programme, I learnt how to manage the business, the finances and online marketing methods, then I got results. All this time I had talent in the beauty line but lacked the skills to market myself.

"Now, sales at my beauty centre and my products have risen. It’s totally turned my life around, I’m so thankful I have my own beauty centre in Bintulu, Sarawak," she said when contacted by Bernama.

Seamstress and wedding boutique owner Nur Ummiumaira Azmi, 22, from Kepala Batas, Penang meanwhile said that she was thankful that she was able to join the programme at her young age as she has succeeded in opening her second boutique recently.

“I started my business without any knowledge, armed only with my sewing skills. After joining class after class since 2022, my sewing business has improved and now I’m expanding to be a wedding boutique owner,” she said.

Another participant, songkok entrepreneur Asmidar Liatee Azhar, 36, admitted to not focusing on social media previously but decided to pivot after seeing how much profit it could generate.

"After joining the programme, (online and physical) sales went up by 100 per cent. I learnt a lot, including how to sell online and to be more confident during live sales on TikTok.

"This year, I already have two shops, one in Shah Alam, Selangor and the other back home in Kemaman, Terengganu, thanks to joining the e-commerce programme by MDEC," she said, as she expressed her hope to expand her business further.

The Auditor-General’s Report Series 2 2024 that was presented at Dewan Rakyat yesterday stated that the e-commerce entrepreneurial development programmes were implemented well and exceeded set targets.

The programmes were jointly implemented by the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, the Digital Ministry, the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry.
