BANGLADESH'S GDP ZGROWS 6.12 PCT YEAR-ON-YEAR IN Q3

DHAKA, July 10 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Bangladesh's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 6.12 per cent year-on-year in the third quarter of 2024, according to provisional data from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), reported Xinhua.

In the same period of the previous fiscal year, it was 2.30 per cent.

GDP at current market prices is provisionally estimated at 13.48 trillion taka in the third quarter of the 2023-24 fiscal year.

In the immediate past quarter of October-December period of 2023-24 fiscal year, the GDP growth was 3.78 per cent.

Growth in the industrial sector, which accounts for around 33 per cent of the GDP, jumped to about 7.03 per cent in the January-March quarter of fiscal 24 while it was 4.98 per cent during the same period a year prior.

Similarly, growth in the agriculture sector increased to 5.46 per cent from 1.88 per cent in a gap of a year.

Apart from this, growth in the services sector, which makes up 53 per cent of the GDP, also increased to 4.97 per cent in the same quarter of fiscal 24 from the previous year's 1.47 per cent.

Bangladesh's revised GDP growth has been projected at 5.82 per cent for the just concluded fiscal year 2023-2024. (1 US$ equals about 118 taka)
