JAKARTA, July 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Army and the Indonesian National Army conducted joint patrols along the border of both countries from June 29 to July 6.

The 1/2024 Patrol Series was carried out in the North Kalimantan area, involving the 9th Battalion of the Border Regiment and the Border Security Task Force of Yonarhanud 12 Satria Bhuana Prakasa (SBP).

The official closing ceremony was held in Desa Long Midang, Krayan Induk District, Nunukan Regency on July 6, according to a statement by Yonarhanud 12 SBP.

Lt Col Arh Agus Prijambodo, Commander of the Border Security Task Force, commended the personnel involved for their dedication and hard work in carrying out the activities smoothly and safely.

“This activity can serve as an effective platform to realise the spirit of togetherness and mutual understanding between the soldiers of both countries,” he said.

He also welcomed the presence of the Commanding Officer of the 9th Battalion of the Border Regiment, Lt Col Muhammad Samzie Gusang, and his delegation at the event.

At the 43rd General Border Committee Meeting (GBC Malindo) in Jakarta last year, the defence ministers of both countries emphasised the importance of enhancing collaboration to tackle issues in the border regions.

This includes implementing joint patrols through the "coordinated patrol" mechanism to combat cross-border crimes that threaten security and stability in the border regions.
