KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- Kuala Lumpur Polo Club (KLPC) hosted the three-day KLPC National Polo Tournament, the Polo Fiesta 2024, here today to bring the sport closer to the general public.

Organising committee chairman Datuk Mohamed Moiz said the July 12-14 tournament, with the backing of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), not only provided an opportunity for the public to witness polo matches in the capital city but also aimed to promote polo and equestrian to the community.

"The polo fiesta is about uniting the community. It's very healthy, we want to open up this sport to the public by organising such events where people can experience polo first-hand.

"Such events can also indirectly unearth players with the potential to represent the country in the future," he told reporters at the KLPC today.

Mohd said that the fiesta also witnessed KLPC, together with the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) Malaysia, organising therapeutic horseback riding for persons with disabilities.

In today's finals, La Familia Sarita won the High Goal Division after defeating Gold Windhorse 7-2 while La Familia downed Tyrants 6-3 to emerge triumphant in the Low Goal Division.

Polo Fiesta 2024, featuring a mix of international and national players, saw three teams - Windhorse Gold, Jogo Polo and La Familia Sarita  - competing in the High Goal Division and five teams - Royal Malaysia Police Polo (PDRM), La Familia, KLAP KLPC, Tyrants Polo and Corsa/Indrapura - in the Low Goal Division.
