WASHINGTON, July 19 (Bernama-dpa) -- Online entertainment conglomerate Netflix's profit climbed in the second quarter, beating Wall Street estimates, reported German Press Agency (dpa), quoting the company on Thursday.
Netflix's bottom line came in at US$2.15 billion, or US$4.88 per share. This compares with US$1.49 billion, or US$3.29 per share, in last year's second quarter.
The company's revenue for the quarter rose 16.7 per cent to US$9.56 billion from US$8.19 billion last year.
In the second quarter, the video streaming market leader gained 8 million subscribers, a 37 per cent increase over the same time last year.
Netflix now has around 277.7 million subscribers worldwide, it said.
