KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- The government will continue to implement policies aimed at ensuring the well-being of the people, including addressing challenges related to the cost of living, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said that this commitment aligns with the decree issued by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th King of Malaysia, which calls for the government to continue efforts to alleviate the people's burden.

“We are dedicated to upholding His Majesty’s decree, particularly in addressing the cost of living, a matter close to Sultan Ibrahim’s heart. For the government, this remains a top priority,” he said.

Fahmi said this to reporters after the Installation Ceremony of Sultan Ibrahim as the nation’s 17th King at Istana Negara, today.

In his royal address, Sultan Ibrahim expressed hope for the government to sustain its efforts to alleviate the public’s burden and advance the country’s progress and prosperity.

Reflecting on today's historical event, Fahmi, who also chairs the Special Committee for the King’s Installation Events, said that this momentous and pivotal occasion for the country and the people was executed seamlessly.

He said that the installation ceremony underscored the vital role of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong institution as the foundation of the nation, safeguarding the welfare of the people and fostering a conducive environment for the government to implement policies benefiting the public.

“I also observed that the public's response to today's ceremony, on social media platforms, was overwhelmingly positive. Numerous individuals expressed their love for His Majesty, with heartfelt 'Daulat Tuanku' comments. This positive trend reflects the people's strong acceptance and admiration for Sultan Ibrahim's installation journey, which was very well-received.

“I would like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure the success and completion of the Installation Ceremony of Malaysia's 17th King today,” he said.

Fahmi also expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the three programmes held thus far, in conjunction with the installation ceremony.

The three programmes included two significant events at the National Mosque: the Yasin Recital and ‘doa selamat’ on Thursday, followed by Sultan Ibrahim performing Friday prayers and listening to a special sermon yesterday, culminating in today’s grand ceremony.

“Three events have been successfully completed, and we have four more to follow: the Royal Banquet, Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah's visit to the Orang Asli Hospital in Gombak, the 'Raja Kita' (Our King) Exhibition, and the Royal Tea Reception. We will ensure that everything proceeds smoothly," he said.
