EX-US PRESIDENTS REACT TO BIDEN'S WITHDRAWAL FROM PRESIDENTIAL RACE, TRUMP SAYS WILL 'REMEDY THE DAMAGE'

WASHINGTON, July 22 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Sunday he will "remedy the damage" he attributed to President Joe Biden shortly after Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race.

"Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve - And never was! He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement," said the former president on his platform, Truth Social, according to Anadolu Agency.

Trump claimed that people around Biden including his doctor and media knew that Biden was not capable of being president.

"And he wasn’t - And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists. We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump said.

Biden announced his withdrawal in a statement.

“It has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said on X.

Biden offered his "full support and endorsement" for Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him as presidential candidate in the coming elections to be held on Nov 5.

Meanwhile, Anadolu also reported on former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton reactions to Biden's decision to drop out of the November presidential race.

In his statement Sunday, Obama praised Biden as "one of America’s most consequential presidents" and "a patriot of the highest order."

"President Biden pointed us away from the four years of chaos, falsehood, and division that had characterised Donald Trump’s administration," he said.

However, he fell short of endorsing Harris in his statement.

Clinton said Biden "has capped his extraordinary career of service with a Presidency that has lifted America out of an unprecedented pandemic, created millions of new jobs, rebuilt a battered economy, strengthened our democracy, and restored our standing in the world.”

"We join millions of Americans in thanking President Biden for all he has accomplished, standing up for America time and again, with his North Star always being what's best for the country," he and his wife Hillary Clinton said in a joint statement.

The Clintons endorsed Harris and said they "will do whatever we can to support her.”
