MOSCOW, July 23 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- The UK Conservative Party, which lost the elections earlier in the month, plans to name a new party leader on November 2 after choosing four main candidates in September, reported Sputnik citing The Times.

The call for nominations will open on Wednesday and close early next week, the report said on Monday. The list of the main eight candidates planning to participate in the leadership race reportedly includes Kemi Badenoch, Priti Patel, Robert Jenrick, Suella Braverman, James Cleverly, Tom Tugendhat, Victoria Atkins, and Mel Stride.

In early September, the party will narrow the number of candidates to four through an internal vote, and they will be allowed to speak at the convention and address the party membership, the report read. After that, two more candidates will be eliminated from the race for a final vote in early October.

The Labour Party secured an overall majority in the House of Commons following the July 4 election, ending the Conservative Party's 14-year grip on power.
