MOSCOW, July 30 (Bernama-Sputnik) -- The founder of the Telegram messenger, Pavel Durov, said that he had more than 100 biological children in 12 countries who had been born thanks to sperm donation, reported Sputnik.
The entrepreneur said that 15 years ago, one of his friends had asked him to donate sperm at a clinic, since he and his wife could not have children. The head of the clinic suggested that Durov donate more sperm in order to anonymously help more couples, since there was a shortage of "high-quality donor material".
"Fast forward to 2024, my past donating activity has helped over a hundred couples in 12 countries to have kids. Moreover, many years after I stopped being a donor, at least one IVF clinic still has my frozen sperm available for anonymous use by families who want to have kids," Durov said on his Telegram channel.
He also said that he planned to open his DNA code so that his biological children could find each other more easily. The entrepreneur added that he wants to help destigmatise the concept of sperm donation and encourage more healthy men to donate their donor material.
US billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk said on X, commenting on Durov's story, that a hundred biological children were "rookie numbers", jokingly attributing this quote to Genghis Khan.
According to beliefs, the founder of the Mongolian Empire Genghis Khan had about 600 children. Musk has 12.
